Omaha and Omaha Hi-Lo PokerOmaha Poker is a community card variation of poker and is very similar to Texas Holdem. In Omaha Poker each player will have 4 "hole" cards. There will be 5 community cards and each player must make their best poker hand using 2 of their "hole" cards and 3 of the community cards. Firstly you are dealt your 4 hole cards and then commence to a round of betting. Then the Turn card is dealt, followed by another round of betting. Finally the river card is dealt followed by the final round of betting. The winner is the player (still in the game) with the highest poker hand using two of his hole cards and 3 of the community cards. Getting dealt a JQKA is no good in Omaha, if the community cards are 4,7,A,10,8 you only have a pair of aces, not an ace high straight. Omaha Hi Lo Omaha Hi Lo (sometimes referred to as Omaha 8 or Eight or Better) follows the same principals and hand layout however each player needs to make 2 poker hands. A high 5 card poker hand and a low (8 or lower) 5 card poker hand, if you cannot make a five card poker hand with a maximum 8 high you do not qualify and cannot win the bet, in the low draw an ace will count as a 1, therefore A2456 is 6 high and not Ace High. The pot is split 50/50 between the 2 hands. As an example... In a heads up game -> |
